About our training sessions
Safety
The health and safety of our swimmers are of utmost importance to us. Be sure to tell your coach if you have any soreness or injuries before jumping into the pool.
Confidence
For any new members considering our swim club, we don’t expect you to be fast, just passionate about being in the water. We do expect swimmers to have basic competency in freestyle and can swim approximately 300m continuously.
When you arrive at the pool, a coach will have a quick chat to you to ascertain your swimming experience and place you in an appropriate lane for the session.
Once the training session starts just swim with those in your lane as best you can. To improve your skills in the water, the coach will give you some feedback as you go along. Members within your lane can also help guide you on any questions you may have during the session.
You may be asked to move lanes depending on how you’re going. We all shift around a bit so don’t get worried if you’re asked to move into a different lane. The idea is not to exhaust yourself – just swim to your ability and try to enjoy your time in the water.
Read more about our pool etiquette here.
Style
Comfortable swimwear and goggles are essential kit for lap swimming. If you have fins, pull buoy and kickboard, please bring these with you.
For transgender, non-binary, and genderqueer swimmers, here are some swimwear options that may help you feel comfortable in the water. Gender neutral change rooms are located at Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre.
Progress
Whether you want to swim to increase your fitness or to compete locally or globally, our coaches and members are a community that celebrates your achievements.
Let the coach know your goals and we can help you achieve them, as a team.
